The Secret to Self Connection

I know, it's always easier said than done...

Any other recovering over thinkers and/or people pleasers out here? I can't be the only one.

We analyze, we plan, we assess, we try again. We get frustrated, we keep going, we try to make it happen. But, what if I told you when it comes to true authentic sensual connection with our bodies, we need to let our brains take some time off?

Have you ever found yourself trying to force connection in a personal relationship? It doesn't really work so well, it's the same for our relationship with ourselves.

We need to move away from the mindset of analyzing and strict planning and trying to predict time frames and outcomes. I know, it's really really fucking hard. But when we let that go and move into the space of being present and experiencing what our bodies are feeling, connection flourishes.

Next time you move, I invite you to let go of what you think your movement should look or feel like. Stay open, stay curious, just let your body move and feel and see what happens. Bonus reminder: it's ok if everything you try doesn't feel right or work for you! I think we also get hung up thinking embodiment and connection have to be a feel good puppies and cupcakes sort of experience 24/7. It's just as important to figure out what is not meant for us too.

To me connection is the most beautiful practice we can give ourselves. When I first started shifting the studio curriculum to more connection based than hardcore tricks based, I always used to say "What would sensuality and connection feel like to you if you were in a room alone, with no one watching, no one cheering you on, just you?".

That phrase is something I've continued to guide my own exploration throughout the years. And in the true fashion of the universe, there sure did come a time where this scenario came to be my reality. But that story is for another day (if you know me in real life I'm happy to share when you see me).

Connection is so precious to me because it leads us places we never imagined we'd find ourselves, it gives us a chance to build a new loving relationship with all parts of ourselves, and it is something that no one can ever take away.

Give yourselves a little extra love this week, see if you can discover something new about yourself in your movement practice-even if the only movement practice you get is dancing around your house.

XOXO,

Andrea
